Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important official stated the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
